Hello my fellow Treasure Hunters, it's a new week so that means there is a New Featured Treasure Hunter of the Week and his name is Dr. E. Lee Spence.
Let me tell you folks when you think to yourself (hmmm, I wonder who the top Treasure Hunters in the world are Mel Fisher? Sir Robert Marx? Heinrich Schliemann? )well, guess who is also on that list, yes Dr. E. Lee Spence. By the time Dr. Spence was 12 years old he had already discovered 5 shipwrecks. By age 15 he was a certified diver finding shipwrecks and valuable treasures. He graduated in the top of his class from South Carolina University with a Degree in Marine Archaeology and went on to get a Doctorate in Marine Histories from Sea Research Society's College of Marine Arts and has received too many awards and honors to list from his accomplishments and research. By the way I just wanted to throw this in here too, when Dr. Spence has free time one of his favorite hobbies is metal detecting and researching sunken ships and lost treasures. I don't know about you but it seems to me Dr. Spence has geared his entire life to being one of the top Treasure Hunters in the world. Now, with all of this education, accomplishments, dedication and research what does it get you? I will tell you what it gets you; Dr. E. Lee Spence has discovered 100's of shipwrecks from Pirate ships, Spanish Galleons, Freighters, Cruise Ships, Civil War Blockade Runners and Submarines. Speaking of Civil War Blockade Runners and Submarines, Dr. Spence's greatest discoveries were the Georgiana which was a Confederate Blockade Runner and the H.L. Hunley which was a Civil War Submarine and probably the most important underwater Archaeology find of the 20th century. Oh yeah, I also forgot to mention that tiny Submarine was valued at about $40,000,000. Since were on that topic now I will also throw in that Dr. Spence has salvaged over $50,000,000 in artifacts and from his research of the locations of two Side-Paddle Steamers the Republic and Central America there has been over $1,000,000,000 in treasures has been recovered.
Dr. Spence's life of treasure hunting and exploring has also come with plenty of life threating dangers too such as being shot at, buried in cave-ins, tangled in fishing nets and pinned under wreckage. He has run out of air, been lost inside wrecks, and attacked by sharks. I could seriously go on and on about Dr. E. Lee Spence's life but I'm going to leave the rest of the research up to you.
